Respond to classmate whether you agree or disagree with their post: Two staffing strategies that organizations can utilize to maintain sustainability and minimize the impact of a significant percentage of the workforce approaching retirement age are:

1.Creating and maintaining a diverse workplace. When you have an organization with newcomers and seasoned workers, there is an opportunity for the seasoned workers to teach the newcomers everything they know. So, when the older workers decide to retire the company should be able to maintain and the impact would not be so bad because the younger group of employees would be able to fill in the gaps and possibly be promoted to fill the retirees’ positions. Then the cycle can start all over with the next group of newcomers.

2.Offer more flexibility such as the ability to work more than one teleworks day (working from home) and work any hours you want as long as everyone is in the office during the core hours and reach his or her 80 hours in each pay period (maxi-flex schedule). When employees have a choice in setting their schedule and just more flexibility they are happier and tend to continue working well past retirement age. People tend to take shorter vacations and have a more balanced home/work life.

Respond to classmate whether you agree or disagree with their post: I chose La Boheme by Puccini. This was an easy choice because I actually am familiar with the story. La Boheme was performed for the first time in Turin, Italy in 1896. It is about a love affair between a poor poet and an equally poor seamstress, set in Paris in 1837. There is also an additional story of a flawed relationship between an artist and a working girl but there story is not the main focus. I think the audience would be welcoming to this story, who doesn’t like a good love story!

I am all about a happy ending so I would change the ending. The four room mates are a writer, an artist, a musician, and a philosopher. I would have the four roommates join together and write a successful opera that would make them the money they need to live comfortably and get Mimi the medical care she needs so she does not die. An updated version of this opera has already been done in the form of a movie, Rent. We could take it further and adapt it to a version set in the U.S.A. with a diverse group of characters and a mixture of different types of music to represent the melting pot that is this country.
